introduction to sewing intensive course

If you’ve never used a sewing machine (or you did a long time ago and don’t remember much), this is the perfect moment to get hands-on and learn from scratch.

In this intensive course, you’ll learn in four hours how to thread the machine and sew basic stitches. We leave out everything unnecessary (there will be time later on to get to know every little bit about the sewing machine) and focus on the essentials: starting and finishing a project sewn by you, from the beginning to the end. You’ll see that if you’re willing to learn something new, you’ll achieve amazing results!

At my studio, you’ll use professional sewing machines with speed control that make starting out very easy—there’s no need to be afraid of that first contact with the machine. I’ve taught hundreds of people with no previous experience how to use a sewing machine, and I’ll guide you with a very clear method that highlights the key points so you can achieve great results from the very beginning. I promise it’s much more rewarding than you might think, so go ahead and give it a try!

student reviews

I cannot recommend Karu’s classes more highly! I started as an absolute beginner—I had never touched a sewing machine before— and came to her class with a specific project I hoped to do in mind. She empowered me to feel like the project was possible and helped me make it happen in just a few weeks. She is such a good teacher; patient, kind, and generous. Her classes are very small (mine were all max four people), so you get the benefit of feeling like you’re in a private lesson with 1-on-1 attention while also getting to be with people and see each others’ projects and cheer each other on. I am leaving Madrid, and I am truly devastated that I won’t be able to keep taking classes with Karu (forever!). With that said, in just a month I learned so much from her. She gave me the confidence and skills to start learning to sew for the first time and now to keep sewing on my own. Thank you so much Karu, I truly feel like your classes changed my life!

I’ve loved my time at Studio Costura! Karu is the most amazing teacher. She is very communicative and takes her time to explain everything in much detail, support and help throughout the sewing process! I’ve definitely learned multiple things during my time with her, and I 100% suggest her, for anyone who’s interested in exploring the art of sewing

Karu is a talented, professional sewing instructor who teaches in Spanish and English. I took lessons from her this passed spring and have gained much needed confidence. She is a patient, creative, and clear teacher, combining her machine sewing skills and creativity to guide students through their projects. Karu is also a great resource for all things related to sewing - patterns, fabric, tools, shops, etc.

Genuinely could not recommend this place enough! Going in I was a bit nervous cause I had never touched a sewing machine before, but Karu was exceptionally helpful and patient during all three classes and explained everything untill I understood, making the whole experience comfortable and fun from the beginning. I’m going to miss it now that i’m leaving Madrid!
