Hey, my name is Karu and I really like to sew.

As a kid I liked all forms of crafts and luckily I learned the basics of sewing and knitting (among other crafts) back in elementary school. But it definitely wasn’t something that I imagined I would do as my day job as a “grown up”.

By a total coincidence after many many years, sewing came to my life again and this time I found out it was something I loooved doing. I ended up working in industrial garment production and after that I studied patternmaking while working as a sample sewer. When my daughter was born I needed more flexible working hours and at the same time I was offered a job teaching sewing classes at the local yarn shop. It was something I actually never thought I’d be prepared for but turns out that this job was a turning point in my career.

Shortly after starting my teaching job I also started Studio Costura as a sewing blog in 2016 to promote my classes. Fast forward I’ve now been teaching sewing classes for eight years and Studio Costura is now a sewing pattern brand! It all started out as an online shop for lingerie supplies and I then also started designing lingerie sewing patterns. I moved my online shop back to Madrid last year after operating six years from Estonia together with my mother. I also teach lingerie sewing workshops in other cities and countries now and I’m really lucky to be able to connect with so many sewing fans through my work.

Apart from lingerie patterns, I also publish other sewing patterns under Laola Patterns together with my friend Alex. I find it really hard to say no to new projects so I’m always experimenting with different things related to the world of textiles.

Thank you for passing by! If you’d like to reach out to contact me to discuss about anything sewing related, you can write me an email to info @ studiocostura.com

More about me? I live in Madrid, Spain, with my daughter and my partner + our two cats Mustikas and Mango. I’m actually from Estonia but I’ve been living here for over seventeen years now so this is what I call home at the moment (even when so many cultural differences keep reminding me that I’ll always be a tourist here, haha).

As I mentioned in the beginning, I really like sewing (!!!) and I wish I had more time to actually work on my personal sewing projects (I guess we all do, hehe). I’m also really really into knitting! These are the two things that make me happy when I have free time. Ah, I also love eating sweets in all sorts of forms if this counts as a hobby.

You can keep on track with my personal sewing and knitting over at my Instagram account and all the lingerie related things are happening at Studio Costura Shop’s Intagram account.

My Pinterest page is where I gather all the inspiration and I post everything knitting related on my Raverly page :)
